Sign up for a Research Team

To better understand the concrete issues we face, we are forming four research teams: Reservation 13 (Public Land), Public Housing, Living Wage Jobs/WMATA, and Community Safety. These teams, with support from WIN organizers, will dig into the history and current politics of the research subject, meet with key stakeholders and public officials, and prepare presentations to help educate our base on the issues. Sign up today to get involved–no prior expertise needed!

  • Reservation 13: These 67 acres of land on the Anacostia Waterfront, home to the recently-closed DC General and right next to the RFK Stadium site, will be up for redevelopment soon. Together with RFK and DC Jail, this site may become a billion-dollar deal, and we need to explore affordable housing and job commitment opportunities.
  • Public Housing: 2,215 public housing units along the waterfront are being threatened by potential privatization and displacement. We need a research team to dig into these threats and public housing conditions.
  • Living Wage Jobs and WMATA Land: Citizens of DC invested in WMATA by pushing for an agreement for $500 million per year in dedicated funding for WMATA, and now we want WMATA to invest in the people. We need a research team around pushing WMATA to re-establish training programs and pass an affordable housing policy on WMATA-owned land.
  • Community Safety:This team will be researching the forces behind the high rates of gun violence in Wards 7 and 8, best practices in violence prevention, and what demands we can make of our public officials and corporate leaders in order to foster safer and healthier communities.
